In the past few years, I have read and listened, with great concern, about the state of our oceans and I have felt extremely helpless. And in fact, I have put off even bothering to do anything because I always asked myself what good could come from anything I could do. Preserving our oceans and marine life is an enormous task, anything that I could do couldn’t possibly be enough to even make a dent.
And while I still feel that way somewhat, I have to do something; I have to try. Don’t I? It’s when I discovered this quote only a few months ago that changed my way of seeing,
“If you think you’re too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.” -The Dali Lama
And it was at that point that I decided to draw attention to the plight of the ocean while training for and racing multiple Ironman races in 2016. I know it’s not enough to have a major impact but I have to try. We have to try. Because if everyone contributes just a little we can indeed make real change.
Take Powerball; everyone participated with just a few dollars and look at the riches that were amassed. Why can’t we do that for a more worthy cause than creating two or three millionaires?
Lets make a “Powerball Effect” for a clean ocean, clean air, clean food. It’s all connected
